Principal Social Worker

I am currently working as a PSW for Adopters for Adoption within the assessment team. Prior to this I worked for a number of years for the agency on a self-employed basis as an ISW, and I continue to have a small role on a self-employed basis with a fostering agency.

Historically, I spent much of my social work career working within the Children with Disabilities Team in Croydon where I worked in CIN, CP, LAC and court proceedings. As a student social worker I had placements in the adoption team as well as unaccompanied minors team, and I have also completed some SGO assessments for West Sussex on a self-employed basis.

Personally, I am a parent to three children – two of whom have additional needs. My eldest has complex needs and presents with frequent aggressive and challenging behaviour and I have therefore had to learn the right way to parent her – therapeutically as well as being mindful of her health needs, developmental level and safety. My experience of therapeutic parenting, particularly when managing difficult behaviours, as well as truly understand the need for self-care and the necessity of asking for help and utilising your support network has enabled me to develop my assessment skills and support adopters as they prepare to adopt.
