Adoption Matchmaking in Berkshire
Children for adoption are referred in a number of ways and your social worker will support you by looking at adoption profiles and expressing an interest in a child or group of brothers and sisters who interest you and whose needs you feel you can meet. If the child’s social worker feels that you may be the right family then meetings will take place to discuss the child in more detail allowing you to get as much information as possible.
What Support Will You Get If You Adopt in Berkshire?
Once the adoption order has been granted, the adoptive parents take on complete financial responsibility for the upkeep of the child. Some local authorities provide financial support dependent on the needs of the child; this is called an adoption allowance. Like any other parents, you’ll be able to receive Child Benefit and other state benefits. An adoption support fund may also be available for children with additional therapeutic needs based on assessment by the Local Authority.
You can also apply for the Adoption Support Fund, which was established to help adoptive parents obtain therapeutic services and support packages for their family when needed. You can do this by requesting an assessment from the Local Authority, who can then submit an application for an Adoption Support Fund. The service is available to all children in adoptive care who have been referred by their local authorities in England.
